Janusz Kraszek, born on December 9, 1953, is not just any Go player—he is a legend in the European Go. Achieving the rank of 5 Dan, he has a long list of accomplishments. In 1983, he became the first and only Polish player to win the European Go Championship, a feat that remains unmatched.

Over the years, he has claimed the title of Polish Individual Champion twelve times, between 1979 and 2003, showcasing his exceptional skill and dedication to the game. Additionally, he has won the Polish Pair Go Championship twice, further proving his versatility in the game.

Innovator in Go Technology

Beyond his prowess on the board, Janusz Kraszek is a pioneer in Go computing. He created the "Star of Poland," a Go-playing program that has won multiple European Computer Go Championships and even placed second in the World Computer Go Championships in 1993. His work in this field has pushed the boundaries of how technology can enhance and challenge our understanding of Go.
